The studs: Slip the studs into the holes next to the buttons on the shirt placket (you will be slipping them in from the backside of the placket.) These studs do not unscrew or pull apart. The studs should be worn with the jewel face showing. Button the shirt using the studs instead of the buttons. The regular shirt buttons will be used at the neck and tail (bottom) of the shirt, as these buttons will not show.
The cufflinks: Slip the cufflink through both buttonholes on the shirt cuff, ignoring the regular button. Flip back the bottom of the link to secure. The cufflinks should be worn with the jewel face showing to the outside of your wrist.
The button cover: Button covers are worn with banded collar shirts to cover the top button. After buttoning the top button at the collar of your shirt, slip the back of the button cover over the button. Close the button cover down over the button to show the jewel face.
Adjusting trousers: Your formalwear trousers are adjustable at the waist and can adjust up to three inches. When adjusting the waistband on your trousers, be sure to set the adjustments the same on both sides to prevent pulling to one side.
The fullback vest: Fullback vests are adjustable at the waist. Slide the ribbon forward or back through the buckle to tighten or loosen the waist of the vest. If there is no outside adjustment, look on the inside of the vest to find a button on one side. There is an elastic band that can be pulled out of the lining or tucked into the lining to tighten or loosen the waist of the vest. Your vest will naturally fall a bit below your waistline. If wearing a tailcoat, it is proper for the vest to show below the front of your coat.
The backless vest: Backless vests are adjustable both at the neck and at the waist. Slide elastic or fabric forward or back through the buckle to shorten or lengthen the vest. Slide elastic forward or back through the buckle to tighten or loosen the waist. Many vests have a hidden pocket in the lining to hide any extra elastic. Your vest should be worn slightly below the waistline and should show below the front of a tailcoat.
The cummerbund: Slide elastic forward or back through the buckle to tighten or loosen the cummerbund. Many cummerbunds have a hidden pocket in the lining to hide any extra elastic. Cummerbunds should be worn at your waist, covering the waistband of your trousers. Pleats should open upward.
The coat: With the wide variety of coat styles and button stances, your coat can be buttoned in a variety of ways. To ensure a uniform look, everyone should wear the jackets buttoned in the same way. Whenever possible, wait to wear your coat until you arrive at the location of the wedding to keep a fresh press.
Shoes and socks: We strongly suggest all members of the wedding party rent shoes and socks to create a uniform look and avoid any surprises. If your attendants are wearing their own, be sure they bring dress socks and polished shoes.
